Atletico Madrid have unveiled their new kit for the 2022-23 season and their new design has caused a backlash from many fans.
New home shirt, which goes on sale July 16, has been criticized for moving away from traditional stripes.
Designed by Nike, the red and white jersey is “inspired by the meanders of the Manzanares River where the club’s old stadium, the Vicente Calderon, was located”.

“The stripes must be vertical and not curved“, said Alberto Garcia, spokesman for the International Union of Atletico Supporters’ Clubs.
“We understand that there is the question of fashion and design, but we have the right to express our opinion.
“This shirt does not represent Atletico. From the start we said we didn’t like the shirt.
“We don’t understand why the club is turning its back on the supporters. We have asked to meet them.
“Maybe the best way for fans to protest is not to buy the shirt.”
Atletico fans took to Twitter to give their verdict.
Among the messages posted on the comments section were: “A tribute to ugliness”, “You will break the record for the worst-selling jerseys” and “I have a ray of hope that the jersey will fit the players better”.
Atletico, who finished third in La Liga behind Real Madrid and Barcelona, are yet to announce who will be the men’s first-team main sponsor for the next campaign.
