Capitals unveils new third jersey design

The Washington Capitals will wear their third jersey presented by Capital One, inspired by the 2018 NHL Stadium Series jersey, for seven home dates during the 2020-21 season, the team announced today. Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian MacLellan. The jersey will be worn over the next three seasons.

The blue jersey will be worn once against each team in the East Division, making its debut tomorrow against the New York Islanders.

The large W on the front of the jersey pays homage to Washington, DC, with the Washington Monument structure culminating in the middle of the W. The “W” alone is a capital letter to symbolize the strength of the nation’s capital. The color scheme is aligned with the flag of the United States of America; with each color also representing attributes displayed by Capitals fans: red represents dedication, white represents loyalty, and blue honors community. The three stars represent Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia.

In some games the third jersey is worn, the Capitals will honor a frontline worker as the team’s Blue Star of the game. The game’s blue star will be highlighted, receive a jersey, and be an honorary member of the game’s starting lineup in honor of their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new jerseys and other apparel are on sale today online at shop.nhl.com, shop.monumentalsportsnetwork.com or at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex store at noon today and at the Capital One Arena store tomorrow at 10 a.m. Click here for a buying guide. Additionally, Capitals Season Ticket members will receive a free current third jersey with the purchase of the new third jersey at the team store at Medstar Capitals Iceplex and a 20% discount at the Capital One Arena team store.
