Already locked up for hitting a motorcyclist with his van while drunk in Jersey Shore in early November, Charles Daily Jr. is facing another round of impaired driving charges stemming from an incident where he almost hit a pedestrian in the borough while intoxicated, Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police alleged in court documents in the office of District Judge Denise L. Dieter.
Dailey, 64, of 1042 Cement Hollow Rd., Jersey Shore, has now been charged with DUI, careless driving and reckless driving after nearly hitting a pedestrian in the 300 block of North Main Street on the afternoon of the Nov. 4, police said.
The incident was observed by a police officer who followed Dailey as the man’s vehicle drove through the fog line, police said. The officer activated his car’s emergency lights, but Dailey continued to travel out of the borough and did not stop until near his home, police said.
While undergoing a series of field sobriety tests, Dailey showed signs that he was likely under the influence of a drug, police said. He admitted to smoking marijuana an hour earlier, police said, adding that he was released that night after submitting a blood test.
Charges were filed in Dieter’s office after test results revealed marijuana and two prescription drugs were in his system, police said.
Two days after that incident, Dailey rammed into motorcyclist Jake Dell’Oso in the 800 block of Allegheny Street around 3:30 p.m. on November 6 when he was again suspected of being intoxicated, police said. Dell’Oso, believed to be in his 20s, was hospitalized with a broken arm, broken leg and internal injuries, police said.
Dailey submitted a blood sample and admitted there was Xanax in his system, a drug he says he takes daily, according to an affidavit. He was arraigned that night before District Judge Gary Whiteman for felony aggravated assault by vehicle under the influence plus DUI and reckless driving. He was taken to Lycoming County Jail without bail.
Police said late Wednesday that a blood test submitted by Dailey on Nov. 6 revealed he had been using marijuana and two prescription drugs hours before the crash.
Daily was recently arraigned before Dieter on charges stemming from the Nov. 4 incident and re-committed in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Regarding another DUI case before Dieter, the judge will hold a preliminary hearing for Frederick Clark, an injured drunk driver who became combative with a paramedic who tried to treat him in the back of an ambulance while the two were en route to UPMC Williamsport, Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police alleged in an affidavit.
Clark, 45, of 216 Market St., Jersey Shore, suffered serious facial injuries in a two-vehicle crash in the 900 block of Thompson Street around 9 p.m. Dec. 6, police said. “There was a visible gash and a large amount of blood on Clark’s face” when police arrived at the scene of the accident, the court document says.
Initially taken to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, Clark was later taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport.
During the drive to the hospital, an inebriated Clark first started using profanity and then began attacking the paramedic, police say. Once the ambulance arrived at the emergency room, the hospital police “took control of Clark,” the court document said. Clark had a blood alcohol level of 0.21, police said.
Questioned last week in front of Dieter for aggravated assault, impaired driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and suspended driving, Clark was released on $50,000 bail. At the time of the crash, Clark was driving a Chevrolet Malibu owned by Jason Hoffman, police said. “Hoffman didn’t give Clark permission to take the car,” the police added.
