The new models have been floating online for weeks, but on Tuesday the Los Angeles Lakers officially unveiled the updated jerseys players will wear throughout the 2018-19 season.
The changes aren’t drastic, with subtle but noticeable reminders of the jerseys the Showtime Lakers of the 1980s wore while the team played at the Forum in Inglewood.
The biggest change is the numbering, with a so-called drop shadow describing each number, a preview of 1980s jerseys.
“Unveiled for the 2018-19 season, the new Los Angeles Lakers uniforms bring back an element of the Showtime era of the 1980s while positioning a new direction for the franchise,” the team said, according to its website.
The 2000s jerseys had more of a V-neck design while the newer versions had a round neck.
The team unveiled three models of jerseys: the famous gold jersey to wear at home, a purple “Statement” edition with black piping on the sides for road games and a white version to wear at home games of the. Sunday.
Above the Lakers script on the chest, the jerseys will feature the Nike Swoosh on one side and the Wish logo, the Lakers’ jersey sponsor, on the other side.
