Many of my clients engage with their audience through content marketing (blogging, email marketing, social media, etc.). As I was describing this to an associate, he asked, “How are sales generated by this type of effort?”
Often someone will read a blog or article and contact the author or company to work with them. But that doesn’t mean the sale is closed. It’s up to sales to close the deal. The purpose of these and other marketing activities is to pave the way for sales. Marketing activities are designed to inform, increase visibility and nurture them so that they are open to buying when approached by sales reps.
Here’s what you don’t want to happen. A salesperson engages with a prospect and the prospect says, “I don’t know your company,” “I don’t know your company’s products,” or “What do you want to sell me?” »
With the right marketing plan in place, a prospect gains knowledge about the business and what it has to offer. When considering the path to take, consider the journey of a particular prospect at your business that takes them down the road to a purchase. In some form, each journey encompasses awareness, consideration, and decision.
Delivering content at each stage of the journey involves using appropriate forms of marketing and using each of them at different stages. For example, to attract new leads, it would be helpful to use blogging, search engine marketing, and social media marketing to grab attention. To keep them engaged, encourage prospects to sign up for company emails and continually remarket your products. Consistency, uniqueness and timing are key.
Marketing is the merging of all the activities that prepare the ground for sales and the transaction itself. It is the distributor who plays a big role in establishing the brand and maintaining its reputation in the eyes of others. Marketers engage customers and customers (potential and current), raising a brand’s profile so it attracts the “right” people – ultimately making a purchase and enabling a conversion rate higher and faster.
