A left-wing Democrat in New Jersey learned the hard way that not all rabbis are kosher.
The campaign of Imani Oakley, a 31-year-old progressive activist congressional candidate in Newark, believed it was negotiations to organize a fundraiser with like-minded Linda Goldstein – Gaza’s “chief rabbi”, but instead, she was discussing a Big Apple lawyer runs a parody Twitter account.
On the bizarre parody account, Rabbi Linda Goldstein warns Hamas fighters to practice social distancing in the tunnels of terror; posts pictures of her posing with a menorah made of Qassam rockets; and presents herself as the “adviser on Jewish questions” to Hamas boss Ismail Haniyeh.
“I’m delighted to announce that #Hamas has given me permission to build the first and only #Ghetto #juif at #Gaza #Palestine! »Goldstein announces in a tweet from June. “By default, wherever a #Jew lives, he #colonizes. The ghettos ensure that the Jews do not displace the #Palestinians. ”
None of Goldstein’s public anti-Israel messages appeared to be a wake-up call for Maita Lockhart, Oakley’s campaign manager, who responded enthusiastically when the sham rabbi reached out in November with an offer. organize a fundraiser in Gaza.
“I would be grateful if you could provide dates / times for this week or next to tune in and chat further,” Lockhart said in an introductory email Nov. 23.
“I think it would be great if Ms Oakley attended in person or virtually (on Zoom) a house party / fundraiser in Gaza. Can’t think of a better way to show off #FreePalestine good faith, ”Rabbi Goldstein replied on Thanksgiving Day. “There are several influential American Jews in Gaza who can provide a lot of help in its district, including media contributions and placements. “
Oakley is portraying himself as a ‘Squad’ style progressive in his main challenge to Rep. Donald Payne Jr., who has been in the seat for a decade. In addition to articles on the Green New Deal, systemic racism and other progressive totems, Oakley’s social media accounts are replete with anti-Israel talking points describing Israel as committing “apartheid” and “genocide.”
The parody account is the creation of a pro-Israel lawyer named Michael, who refused to reveal his last name for fear of reprisal. Michael told the Post he created the account to poke fun at left-wing anti-Zionist Jews.
“I don’t care about the five percent of Jews who hate Israel,” he said. “I created this personality that shows how reductive and absurd these people are.”
Lockhart followed the “rabbi” again after the holidays.
“We are delighted that you are interested in hosting a virtual fundraiser,” she said. “I would be grateful if you could provide us with dates / times so that we can talk more this week or next so that we can solidify the next steps.”
Oakley is far from the only far-left progressive to unwittingly kiss the Hamas-loving rabbi.
Thelma Walker, a former Labor member of the UK parliament, also offered Rabbi Linda her “respect and solidarity” in private messages Michael shared with The Post. Walker did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
Gaza has been a coastal strip of land controlled by the terrorist organization Hamas since 2007. There are no rabbis or Jews, and the territory is frequently used as a base for rocket attacks against civilians in Israel.
“Jews cannot live in Gaza. So the fact that people think she is the chief rabbi of Gaza or that she has a temple in Gaza shows how uneducated people are about the conflict. said Michel.
Lockhart confirmed to the Post that she had been in contact with Goldstein and didn’t know she was being played.
“We weren’t going to host anything in Gaza that was clearly out of the question,” Lockhart said. “I tried to respond and go through the process, but at no point did we commit to doing anything.”
In a statement posted on Twitter Prior to this story, Oakley said “no political attack will stop me from defending the humanity and dignity of the Palestinian people.”
